Our House

We live in a crappy house.

It's way, way too small for a family of seven. And we don't even get the whole house- we have to share it with a family friend, Harry, who I hate. He's a disgusting stereotypical sexist pig. He has the whole bottom floor, and we have the small top two.

Our old landlords were basically running from the police or something (I don't know all the details) and they put our house up for sale so we had to move, and fast.

The only place we could find was Harry's, so he and my dad now co-own the house. The only reason Harry let us move in was because he would have lost the house. We payed the money he owed, including all his back taxes, and we pay for his cable, I think heat, and I think the water and electric for our tenant.

The two floors were only meant for a single person, possibly two. There's only one bedroom, and the kitchen is so small having two people in it is too much. There is barely any counter space, and the dining room is super small as well (though not as small as the kitchen).

I'm sleeping in the attic with my brothers, and my "room" is separated by a curtain, tiny and cramped and has slanted walls. I can't even put shelves up.

We had a visit from some carpenter ants last year, and now they're back again. Since it's currently colder out, we don't see them as much, but that could vary greatly within a few days.

We're deep-cleaning the house so we can call an exterminator over before the ants get worse. Trust me, it isn't a pretty sight. Anyone with kids or siblings knows how easy it is for toys, dirt, and dust to be swept or rolled/knocked under appliances such as the dishwasher, stove, or fridge.

I spent six hours cleaning the upstairs hallway. We had to rip out the floor (not the wood, just the tile type thingy), and my dad, who's a contractor, will have to put in a new floor.

My room, my brothers', the kitchen, dining, and living room, and my parents rooms' still need to be cleaned. The kitchen shouldn't take too long, a few days as most (but most likely only a day or two), and the real challenges are my room and my brothers'.

Despite everything, I'm still thankful I at least have a house and food, and a family. As sucky as our situation is, it could be much, much worse, and I do recognize it.
